Study Results

In data supplied by the manufacturer of maraviroc, rifampin, a CYP3A4 inducer, caused adecrease in maraviroc’s Cmin by 78%, AUC by 64%, and Cmax by 66%. Abel et al found that the AUC and Cmax of maraviroc were reduced by approximately 70% and 50% respectively when co-administered with rifampin.

Study Conclusions

While the manufacturer did not supply specifics on maraviroc levels, they did state a higher dose of maraviroc was recommended due to the CYP3A inducing nature of the following drugs: carbamazepine, phenobarbital, and phenytoin. Furthermore, any medication that is a CYP3A inducer could potentially lower maraviroc levels when co-administered. Consider initiation of maraviroc 600 mg BID.
