About Objectives

The Precautionary and Prohibited Medications Database was created to assist AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG) investigators and research staff during protocol development and the conduct of clinical studies. Investigators and research staff may access the most current pharmacokinetic data regarding drug-drug interactions for medications utilized in each of several ACTG scientific focus areas.

The drug interactions are divided into a Precautionary Medications and a Prohibited Medications section. In order to gain more experience with the data in this database, users are also encouraged to complete the Clinical Pharmacology Tutorial that is provided through the University at Buffalo's Clinical Pharmacology Quality Assurance program.

This database assists HIV researchers developing a protocol or conducting a protocol to:

  • Identify the important medications that must be avoided during the screening process as well as after the subject is enrolled.
  • Identify the precautionary medications that should be monitored closely in subjects entering the protocol or after the subject is receiving the study treatment.
  • Access recent drug interaction data that has been presented at research conferences but are not published yet.
  • Presented at research conference prior to publication

The Precautionary and Prohibited Medications Database is funded by the AIDS Clinical Trials Group.
